| Summer is over | ||
Well it looks like our summer season has come to an end. Notting Hill Carnival passed relatively smoothly if not much smaller than any years I’ve known it. Our radio1 Carnival Classics night at Funky Buddha was great. It was good to see some of the old faces getting down, nice for me to pull out some oldies and reminiscence for a night. Blu Cantrell popped in and definitely made here presence known (check out the gallery for shots from the night).I played my last night at Club Ice in Napa and I have to say that I really enjoyed this year even if the resort was much quieter than previous years. I also did my first under 18’s gig in the UK at Pulse and Vogue in Stevenage. It was a big success for UK club culture with the support of radio1 and you never know I might even be tempted into doing some more in the future. September sees me on my travels once again for the BBC. I’ve got 2 more shows lined up for Holiday You call the Shots, Paris and Vienna this time round. Then on to NYC for my new series of the Lowdown, I can’t confirm who’s on the show but trust me they’re gonna be big, so watch this space. And if your jetting off somewhere on a Virgin flight check out my new show “off the hook” on all out going flights, there’s just no escaping me! Don’t know if you had the chance to catch MTV’s Video Music Awards but justice was finally served as Missy picked up her first ever award– hard to believe I know. Scooping best video of the year and best hip hop, it was great to see her getting some recognition for her videos which lets face it have been paving the way for all genres of music for the longest time. It was a great night with Chris Rock back on board – for me he is the only man to present that show even if he was a little tamer than usual. It was a great night for urban music with Justin and 50 Cent scooping 5 awards between them but for me Beyonce stole the show with a truly classy performance. Looking forward to the EMA’s later on this year in Edinburgh. While on the subject of MTV – the lick will be back later on this year. It’s been a while I know and I’m sure you’re just as sick of the repeats as I am. I can’t say too much but we are in talks about doing a lick review show so I’ll be back on Base before you know it. It’s been a quiet month for music. The much-hyped new Neptune’s project, The Clones finally dropped. Definitely one for your jeep but for me the production still out does the lyrical content. Mary J delivered another good album, probably making her the most consistent female artist of recent times. That’s me done, till next time Peace |
