2003! What a start!...

I just got back from 2 weeks in Jamaica, a much-needed break from the madness and mayhem that is, the urban world. Every time that I try to explain to people that doing radio shows, mtv and extensively club djing can drain you musically I get laughed at but sometimes the last thing that I wanna do when I get home is listen to music. I am least likely to be booming in my jeep down your street 24/7.
In fact my first 9-5 job in music was a record importer a job that had me on the phone to New York talking music, then in my van collecting music, then driving from shop to shop selling music. I would do this everyday till around 8pm then go look for a club to go to that night if I weren’t djing or running around promoting at other venues.

Money was lacking but I felt like the richest man in the world cos I had music around the clock. I thought I had the best taste in music, knew the hottest dance moves and could track down any rare record in the UK. But the truth was I was overloading and burning out at 21. Sure I loved the music but I took it all too seriously kinda like life and death.

I am actually enjoying my music more than ever by cherry picking my gigs and reinventing my radio show and have also made a vow to use more of my record collection in both. I am seriously loving both of my radio1 shows for different reasons, Saturdays are just a lot of fun for me, talking to artists like Nelly, Joss Stone, Usher, Cassidy and Estelle, doin a mix called the “Run” and playing a mainstream mix of R&B and Hip-Hop, the 3hours fly.
Wednesday nights “Soul Nation” is my truly specialist R&B show, breaking new artist like John Legend and dropping Jill Scott next to a classic from Stevie Wonder, Common or Erykah Badu. We have also had world exclusive album plays and interviews from R.Kelly and Ms.Scott, also watch out for my first live soul nation gig possibly Bournemouth, in November. It will be the start of a series of more intimate gigs with capacities of no more that around 500 for the true fans.

We are just ending an amazing Tuesday night residency at Pacha in Ibiza, with the closing party on Sept 21st. I wanna thank the whole underwater crew for a great summer and promise to take some pics for my badly needs to be updated gallery!
I might slip one or two of Jade Jagger's Ibiza pad which is incredible!
If you are heading to my uni freshers tour expect another big night, the full tour is on the site.
