| The RnB debate continues | ||
Recently my fellow dj Ronnie Herel did a documentary called “is RnB hip hops bitch?’ He basically questioned whether Hip Hops recent domination of the charts had reduced RnB to a bit part player, a worrying development.I would beg to differ though. The first quarter of this year has been dominated by the likes of 50 Cent, The Game and Snoop who have put out RnB style singles to have mainstream success, whereas the RnB rebirth continues with big albums from Mariah and Faith Evans, continued progress for John Legend and Ciara and big hits from newcomers Bobby Valentino and Akon who recently topped the album and singles chart in the UK. If RnB is Hip Hops bitch then I am a subscriber to Kerrang. It would be rude of me not to mention the most important achievement of the last 50 years, yes Chelsea are premiership champions and it feels good. Ask G Money 1Xtra’s biggest Arsenal fan who after losing a bet with me had to wear a specially made Chelsea shirt live on his show. Payback is a mutha and I owe a lot of reds retribution. Well-done Jose and the boys for setting my summer up. I just got back from Antigua from Soul to Souls Back 2 Life trip with David Rodigan and Norman Jay and once again we had an amazing time all captured on my mtv Lick show. It was a great way to warm up for the new Ibiza season kicking off at Pacha on June 21st. My Rhythm Nation parties will again be every Tuesday in conjunction with Defected who will be hosting the main room. Myself and Nigel G aim to make this summer even better than the last as we now know the secret to a great time in Ibiza, but I’m not telling you, just reach…………Oh yes don’t expect your regular RnB fair played as we mix it up with just about anything as you’ll find on the Pacha compilation CD that I’ve done in collaboration with Jade Jagger and David Morales (Renaissance Presents Pacha Ibiza in stores July 19th) On the gig front the Summer balls have already started at Universities, I’ve had great nights so far, thanks to all at Preston, Derby and Hull. Still to come Nottingham, Leeds, Hertfordshire and Imperial. For everyone in Glasgow, I’m heading back to a venue with great memories of Lick and Rhythm Nation Parties and that’s Destiny, get your tickets now. Just before I go the CD on rotation in my ride right now has got to be Common album “Be” and its up for grabs if you’ve signed up for membership. |
