| 2003! What a start! | ||
The new year got of to a mad start for me after huge festive gigs at the 'Works' in Birmingham, 'Creation' in Leicester and of course the Ministry of Sound on new years eve (check the gallery for the hottest pics) The lick party in Iceland was up there with the best. For a country with a population of just 150,000 in its capital city, I was amazed that nearly 2,000 turned out for our party. Whilst there I had to check out the glacier that featured that amazing car chase scene in the latest James Bond movie, did a bit of snowboarding and had a full body exfoliation in a sulphuric pool called the Blue Lagoon. Iceland is a place I would definitely recommend for a mad getaway. That party was just a part of the ongoing lick 5 year celebrations which continue with the release of our latest compilation album, 'the best of the lick' featuring some of our favourite tracks from lick parties over the years and exclusive footage of interviews with artists.On the subject of interviews you may have seen my recent meeting with R-Kelly, controversial to say the least. He has his new album chocolate factory on release but his lawyer wouldn't allow me to talk about his impending trial, it was quite a surreal situation. Kelly Rowland was in town recently looking lovely as ever and beaming with her solo successes, who would have thought she would slightly eclipse Beyonce. One guy you wanna envy is Justin Timberlake. The album is just sick, girls are fainting at the mention of his name and the top producers in hip hop are either singing his praises or forming a queue to work with him. When we hooked up he was pretty chilled with impeccable southern manners, all the traits of an undercover playa, you go boy. The interview of the month was without doubt Martin Bashir v Michael Jackson. He is the only star in the world that I would like to talk to if he were only prepared to be honest. It was an amazing interview but Jacko lost his integrity when blatantly lying about his cosmetic surgery, after that I couldn’t believe him one way or another. The kids were a huge talking point and my comments on radio 5 live the following morning led to the tabloids asking me to write a Michael Jackson backlash column, I even got invited to talk about it on Richard and Judy, I mean come on, I politely said no to all offers. BBC3 has just launched in the UK. It is the official youth channel from the beeb and replaces bbc choice. Look out for two shows from me in the first couple of weeks. One is called underground 2003 awards a show where a panel of cool celebs choose the pick of up and coming talent in music, arts, fashion, etc and the other is my new series called the 'lowdown' an entertainment show that will have a series run of ten programs later this year, but a pilot show broadcast on feb14th. Guests on the first show are Kelly Rowland, Nas, Sugababes, the cast of Babyfather, Sarah Jones and a New York diary from Kelis, its a fast paced 30 mins in a phat studio and I love it, hope you do. |
